In our family nieces and nephews get dropped from the gift giving at the family dinner the Christmas after they turn 19. This means that I had two less kids to shop/craft for this year as my daughter, a niece, and a nephew all turned 19 within six weeks of each other this year. We added a kid, the niece had a little girl in February. This may sound uncaring to some people but with my being the oldest of six and five of us having 2-3 kids a piece and three of those kids having 1-2 kids... It really adds up fast. My great aunt started this tradition when we were kids and we have continued it. Mom still gets something small for all of us and all the kids, with the under 19s getting something bigger. It works for us.
This year's crafting included a crewel work pillow for Mom covered in yellow and purple pansies, one of her favorite flowers. It is an Elsa William's kit that I scored on e-bay. The nine year old and 14 year old nieces got peyote stitch beaded amulet bags and the baby got a crocheted "Hello Kitty" stuffed toy plus a small blankie made from left over scraps of fleece and binding from the crib blanet I made for her baby shower.
Just to make life interesting, I joined in two Christmas ornament exchanges, one with my EGA group and one with the ANG offshoot Yahoo Group. I sent mine off on November 27 and got two back.
